Here at Pinoy Radio TV Calgary, we often say we’re more than media—we are a meeting point. The Filipino community in Calgary is large, vibrant, and spread out across this wonderful city. Our challenge, and our passion, is ensuring that all those individual stories, businesses, and organizations are tied together.
From my perspective as the webmaster, I see how the digital reach of pinoyradiotvcalgary.ca and our broadcasts work hand-in-hand to make that connection real.
1. The Central Bulletin Board for Local Events
How do you find out about the next major Filipino festival, the church bazaar, or a vital consulate outreach program? You turn to your community media. We act as the single, reliable source for everything happening. By sharing information on-air and backing it up with easy-to-access event listings on our website, we ensure that no kababayan misses an opportunity to gather, celebrate, or participate in a Filipino-Canadian cultural event.
2. A Loudspeaker for Local Talent
Calgary is bursting with Filipino talent—singers, artists, entrepreneurs, and young leaders. But without a dedicated platform, their voices can be drowned out. We make it a point to:
- Feature Local Artists: We play their music and interview them, giving them the support that’s so crucial in the early stages of a career. (Just look at the vibrancy of the Filipino music scene mentioned by groups like CBC!)
- Showcase Local Businesses: We connect Filipino consumers with Filipino service providers, helping our community’s economy grow stronger and more independent.
3. Fostering Dialogue and Civic Participation
Connection isn’t just about sharing good news; it’s about addressing real community issues. We provide a brave space for dialogue on topics that matter to Filipinos in Calgary—from immigration policies and mental wellness to professional accreditation.
